Flightsim Estonia has developed a number of development tools, some of which may be useful to other developers, too.

At the moment, the following tools are available:

  • Shapefile UUID Tool – Adds UUID field to ESRI Shapefiles and populates with unique identifiers as required by FSX and Prepar3D shp2vec tool that produces BGL files from Shapefiles.
  • Gridmaker – Generates ESRI Shapefiles that contain FSX and Prepar3D LOD grid as used by the terrain engine. These grids are useful for working with Shapefiles intended to be converted into BGL files.
  • Bridge Tool – Reads line data from files in ESRI Shapefile format and outputs bglcomp-compatible bridge data in XML format. These XML files can then be compiled into BGL files usable with FSX and Prepar3D.

All tools, together with documentation, come in a single ZIP file and require no installation. These tools are intended for experienced developers who feel comfortable working with command line programs. Comments and feedback are welcome at our forum.

Please note that these tools can only be used for non-commercial purposes. If you wish to include them in a commercial product or use them to create commercial products, prior permission from info@flightsim.ee is required. In most cases, this is given in exchange for a certain number of copies of the products the tools are used in.
